Yvonne Joyce Craig

Yvonne Joyce Craig (May 16 1937 - 17 August in 2015) was an American dancer and actress best known for her role in the role of Batgirl in the 1960s' television series Batman as well as her role as the green-skinned Orion slave girl Marta in the Star Trek episode "Whom Gods Destroy" (1969). The Huffington Post called her "a pioneer of female superheroes" for television. Yvonne Craig was born and was raised in Taylorville, Illinois. In 1951 her family moved from Illinois to Dallas. There she attended W. H. Adamson High School in Dallas as well as Sunset High School. However she did not graduate as she didn't have "one credits for PE". Craig was accepted into Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo as the the youngest dancer in the corps de ballerina, after being identified by Alexandra Danilova who is a dancer and instructor. When she was playing Batgirl and was a Batgirl, the lessons proved extremely beneficial. In 1957, she left the ballet company due to an issue about casting changes. Then, she moved to Los Angeles with the hope of making it a career for her. But, she found herself in film roles. She was first seen in an TV episode of Perry Mason ("The Case of the Lazy Lover") along with Neil Hamilton. Hamilton later was appointed Batgirl's Police Commissioner James Gordon. She was in three films following the show, The Young Land, The Gene Krupa Story and Gidget (all 1959). Craig also appeared on the TV series Mr. Lucky, as Beverly Mills, in the episode "Little Miss Wow" also in 1959. Craig played with Bing Crosby in High Time (1960) as well as in Seven Women from Hell (1961) which was co-starred with Cesar Romero. In 1962, she was a guest star on the Western Laramie in the episode "The Long Road Back".Craig was in roles alongside Elvis Presley in two films: It Happened at the World's Fair (1963) and Kissin Cousins (1964). In the year 1966, she was a part-time actress in Mars Needs Women. In 1967, she was an Russian ballet dancer in In Like Flint.
